Description: Who do we choose to be friends with? Why do we stay friends with them? What do we say and do during good conversations? How does our surrounding social network impact us? How do we perceive interactions between other people? Together, we will discuss the current research on social connection by answering questions such as these. We will explore why social ties are so important, why people behave the way they do during social interactions, and why people sometimes interpret the same interaction differently. Understanding how psychologists study social connection may prompt you to reflect on your own conversations, relationships, and social networks throughout this class.
